Heart's Journey -- Book spotlight with Giveaway

Linda Hoover • Jan 10, 2023

Today I welcome author Linda Hoover as she shares about her latest release, Heart's Journey, and the first in the series, Heart's Desire. She is also generously offering a free short story, and she shares about her newsletter, too.

Hello! Thank you for stopping by to read my blog and thank you to Donna for hosting me. I’d like to share about my most recent release, Heart’s Journey, book two in the "Heart’s Desire" series. The story begins where Heart’s Desire left off in 1880, Boston. Julia, my main character is from one of Boston’s old families, but falls in love with a man who wants to own a farm in Iowa. They both pray for God to make a way for them to be together if it’s his will, and he does. Once they’re married, and on their way, Julia has to face the difficult life she’s chosen. How will she make a home for herself and Jacob when she’s never been in a kitchen, let alone on a farm.

As they’re on the road to their new farm, Julia admits she’s afraid they might starve and Jacob asks why. Here's a quote from the book.

Here's a peek into the story:

Julia gave him a sheepish book. “There’s something I need to tell you. Actually, I ought to have mentioned it before now.” Jacob turned to her; brows raised. “I’ve never been in a kitchen.”

Jacob searched for words. He had assumed that even rich women knew what to do in a kitchen. “Are you saying you’ve never, in your whole life, been in a kitchen?”

Julia has a lot to learn about being a farm wife. She struggles but she doesn’t give up. Throughout the story there are times when Jacob and Julia’s faith is tested. The question is, will they continue to trust and believe?

I enjoyed researching for Heart’s Journey and I can tell you it didn’t take long to know I wouldn’t want to live in that time period. Making your own soap and washing your clothes on a scrub board, while on your knees beside a laundry tub, are just two of the tough jobs women did. I’m afraid my laundry wouldn’t have gotten done very often.

Question for readers: Have you ever thought you’d like to live as the pioneer women did?
