Getting to know Tracy

What do I enjoy for relaxation? This question is almost too easy. I, of course, love reading! This is my favorite relaxation activity, but I also enjoy watching a good movie or show. Sometimes I’ll join my hubby for a home improvement show or watch a cooking show, but I’ve realized that I like things that focus on a story. I want to know about the people involved and how their lives are changed by what’s going on. I also enjoy sharing a meal or coffee and good conversation with good friends. I play this delicate game of balance between being a lone, introverted writer and a social bug who enjoys being around people.

What do I enjoy most about writing? The creation of stories. This goes back to my gravitation toward people and their stories. This also fits with my education and former career. I’m a trained counselor and worked as one before becoming a stay-at-home mom and author. I love being able to take my characters on a journey, laughing with them, crying with them, and processing my own life through their experiences.

Do I have a dedicated place to write? Not really. Laptops make mobility easy, unlike my early days of writing where I was holed up in a former-closet-turned-office with a desktop. I do have a favorite chair in the living room, though, that I often sit at with my cup of coffee on a warmer, because who wants lukewarm coffee? But I’m also known to hide out in my room in that recliner, hangout at the dining room table where my kids are doing school, or even going to the library or a coffee shop for a different set of walls.

A Peak inside...

CHAPTER 1

SUZANNE had seen enough. She’d taken more than a dozen pictures on her phone. The proof was at her fingertips. Mr. Lowell might be a devoted dad, but an injured employee he was not. No man with a severe back injury would be carrying his three-year-old on his shoulders. She scrolled through the pictures. Nor would he have given his 6-year-old a bouncy piggyback ride. There were a couple times he grimaced, but his pain obviously wasn’t bad enough for him to be out of work still.

She didn’t like turning this kind of report into her contracting agency. The bums claiming disability while downing booze in front of the TV all day in between golf games and nights out at the bar she never had a hesitation about. There was satisfaction in saving a company from supporting a lowlife making a fraudulent claim. There wasn’t much pleasure in turning in a dad who actually used his time for his family. Still, she wasn’t the one who’d lied on a workman’s comp form.

A bang reverberated throughout the historic park and she jumped. Her eyes flew across the dirt to the portly man demonstrating seventeenth century firearms. After the third blast since she’d arrived that afternoon, her body shouldn’t react, but it did.
