This book has the most unique story of writing of all my books. I was a fairly new writer looking for writing opportunities anywhere I could find them. I dabbled in magazine writing (I had four articles accepted in a two year period), wrote for free for a local newspaper, and worked on my early books. Then a friend started a local women’s magazine and asked me to do a columnist. I wrote some nonfiction pieces, highlighting women and their stories in our community. Then she asked if I would consider writing a fiction column, including a segment each month. I didn’t hesitate. Over the period of almost two years, I wrote a monthly column building the story of Jen, how her life collapsed and how she slowly pieced it back together. Upon the upcoming second anniversary of the magazine, the editor asked if I’d transform the story into a book for the celebration, and, wallah! A book was born.
