Interview with Francis (Grace) Riley

Welcome Grace! Why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?

I’ve work for a Denver-based company, Prospect & Gould, for years, and am ready for a promotion and people to start taking me seriously. I was hoping this trip into the mountains would win over Mr. Prescott to my company’s proposal to buy some of his land, but he’s just as prickly as Clint Eastwood’s characters in almost any of his westerns.

Tell us more about how you and Micah first met. I hear it was a little unorthodox.

If you call rescuing a person stranded on the side of a mountain road in a rainstorm as unorthodox, by all means… I shouldn’t have reacted as I did, nearly took his head off with my umbrella when he came to my door, but how was I to know he wasn’t an axe-weildng murderer? Of course, I panicked again when he introduced himself as the Mr. Prescott I was looking for, and then the road washed out behind us, so now I’m in a whole other mess. At least his neighbor was nice enough to let me crash at her place for a while.

And your new roommate, Callie? What’s she like?

Like a humming bird. Or maybe more accurately like one of her honeybees. She’s always moving, always talking, but I can’t help but feel at home in her garden cottage. I’ve never been much good at making female friends, but she’s decided that we’re destined to be besties. Not that I’m complaining. And as her friend, I’ve decided It’s my duty to help set her up with Micah’s younger, and much more charming, cousin Caden.

Plus, she makes a mean tomato flatbread pizza.

Tell me something about you that readers may find surprising?

I’m not a romantic. I know girls are supposed to swoon at the mention of prince charming, but when he sneaks up on you in a rainstorm in a dirt-splattered white pickup instead of a horse, that’s not destiny. Right?

If you had to choose between Callie’s bees and Micah’s sheep, which would you pick?

It’s like that question, would you rather be stuck with a horse-sized duck or a hundred duck-sized horses? You really don’t want to be responsible for either. While I do love honey, it doesn’t keep you warm like a nice wool sweater. And seeing as sheep can’t sting you, I’d have to go with those.

About Fields of Glass

Micah Prescott will do anything to save his family's sheep ranch, even if it kills him. With a city-based firm pressuring him to sell and the bank threatening to call in his loan, he has less than a month to figure out a solution to keep the property his father strove so hard to protect. But when a storm rolls in, washing out the only bridge to town and bringing with it an unwanted visitor, he finds his options quickly dwindling.

Sales associate Francis Grace Riley will do anything to prove that she belongs. Convinced she can secure a deal where others had only failed, she takes to the mountains in search of one stubborn rancher, only to realize there is much more riding on the outcome of this trip than her job.

From the moment Micah rescues Grace on the side of the road, sparks fly—that is until he learns who she really is. Stuck together until the bridge is repaired, the two of them must learn to work as a team if they have any hopes of achieving their goals. But when things start to go wrong on the ranch, and sheep begin to disappear, they're left questioning who they can trust ...

... and what they're willing to sacrifice for those they care for.

Getting to know Alyssa

1. What is your favorite vacation spot?

Growing up, I loved going to Buena Vista, Colorado. It’s such a beautiful place, and while it’s gotten busier over the years, there is still something so peaceful and relaxing about being there.

2. What do you enjoy most about writing?

Coming up with story ideas! I love the initial brainstorming stage of a story and being inspired by the most random of scenarios.

3.  What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?

Leave a review online! I appreciate every one of them. :)

Reader Question: What is your favorite enemies-to-more romance?

First page of Fields of Glass:

Chapter 1

GIVING UP WASN’T an option.

Despite what the parched earth might be telling him.

Kneeling, Micah Prescott scooped his hand into the dirt on the edge of the parking lot. The pale brown dust slipped through his fingers. Not a hint of moisture.

And, according to the wide blue, cloudless sky, nothing on the horizon either. Just perfect. Another drought was the last thing Micah needed on top of his growing mountain of problems.

He released the remaining handful to the wind and stood up. The bank papers in his jacket pocket crinkled with the movement.

It didn’t matter what they all said. The ranch wasn’t dead yet.

Micah shoved back his baseball cap and rubbed his forehead. The tension headache he’d been fighting all afternoon now pulsed at his temples.

“I’ve never been late on a payment, not once in fifteen years—”

He wanted to shake away the memory of his voice this morning at the bank. He hadn’t been begging.

 Just…reminding.

“I’m sorry it’s come to this…” Stupid Jackson, sitting behind his mahogany desk at Bank of the Rockies.

“Yeah, me too. How am I supposed to raise seventy-five thousand dollars in thirty days?”

Jackson had left the question unanswered even as Micah stormed out of the office, not caring who might be watching.

Probably all of Lake City had figured it out, anyway.

He was about to lose the ranch that had been in his family for generations. Yeah, he was that son. Not the successful veterinarian like his younger brother Tye. He thought he’d finally been able to resurrect his father’s legacy, if not his name. No wonder he felt their stares on his back, the cold shoulders from a town he’d grown up in.

Again, what did they expect from Micah Prescott?
