This is my tagline woven through all fourteen of my short stories before I published my historical fiction eBook novella, Muldoon’s Minnesota Darling. I’ve woven this concept through my upcoming novel series of three books as well through Celebrate Lit Publishing.
Why did I choose this tagline? Because God has always done this in my life, and now in my fictional characters’ lives. As a believer, why is God’s presence unexpected to me, them, or us?
Because we could struggle with our faith in Him, hope in His plans, or with the love we have for others. None of these are easy in our natural human state. Maybe God appears uninterested in our situations, or slow to respond to our prayers.
The Muldoon family, in Those Resilient Muldoons series, battles with all three of God’s spiritual benefits of faith, hope, and love. Like us, they have reasons for their strife with God because of the heart and soul wounds from others or from their own terrible choices.
Scripture says faith, hope, and love remain forever after everything else is gone. 1 Corinthians 13:13, “Now faith, hope, and love remain—these three things—and the greatest of these is love.”
This spiritual concept intrigues me personally and as an author. Those characteristics are another triangle of strength, like the Holy Trinity of God the Father, Jesus Christ, His Son, and the Holy Spirit.
What happens when someone is weak in even one of these three? Their inner strength is compromised and goes off balance. Chaos in their lives ensues and I write about the “what ifs” in my messy characters.
Mick Muldoon Is fairly skilled at loving his family members, and he grips tightly to hope, because the losses of his loved ones weaken his faith. Muldoon’s Minnesota Darling, is a time in his life when a community helps to buoy his faith again.
I’m privileged as a Christian author to write about the one thing I and my characters never need to worry about—God’s faithfulness regardless of our weaknesses.
