Forgiveness, Redemption, and a Best Kept Secret

Jane Daly • Mar 21, 2023

Today I welcome author Jane Daly as she shares her brand new release in her Broken series.

Imagine your best friend tells you she’s pregnant and she asks you to keep it a secret. Or your brother tells you he’s going to ask his girlfriend to marry him, but “don’t tell anyone.”

It’s delicious to know something no one else knows. You’re part of an inner circle. You feel special.

What if you have a secret you don’t want anyone else to find out? What if it’s your deepest, darkest shame you’ve kept hidden because you fear others’ judgement?

·      You were married and divorced at a young age, and your church preaches that remarrying is like committing adultery.

·      You had an abortion at a young age and your friends would be shocked to hear that ‘you murdered your baby.’

·      Your spouse mistreats you in private, yet you both attend Sunday services with your ‘church faces’ on.

Sometimes we struggle with the concepts of forgiveness and redemption. When Jesus says that our sins are as far removed as the east from the west, why do we still see our past hovering on the horizon?

The Bible says if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. James 5:16 says, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another.”

The most powerful verse I’ve found is in Ephesians 5:13: “Everything exposed by the light becomes visible-and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.”

When we expose those deepest, darkest secrets to our brothers and sisters, they lose power over us. The enemy can’t stand the light, so when the light shines on those past sins, he can’t touch them anymore.

You can read the story of how three people learned the truth of this in Broken Silence. Jinxi, Dean, and Janice all have a secret from their past that they don’t want anyone to know. They discover the truth of Ephesians 5:13 – by exposing the past, they find redemption and release from the past shame they’ve carried for years.
