GLORY BEYOND EXPECTATIONS!

Glory finds her feet (and the rest of her!) unwillingly plodding along the Santa Fe Trail. It’s late in the year for a wagon train, and her father is acting strangely guilty about something. Why did he have to start them on this journey…

What could a woman expect on a hard journey done mostly by foot? Injury and illness? If it was me on the trip, I’d also add irritation to that list. One thing that I strive to improve on is not giving into irritation when trouble or discomfort confronts me.

How about you? If you were that woman walking behind your husband’s wagon, what would fill your thoughts? Perhaps dreams of the new home you both would make? Or would anger at being forced to leave what you know fill you?

This past Easter, I was challenged by the simple text used in my church’s service. The Apostle Paul, writing to Timothy, urged him to, “Remember Jesus Christ.” (II Timothy 2:8a, ESV) As if Timothy could forget, and yet there’s a deeper message. Fill your mind with what you know about our Savior. Never let the truth of his death, burial, and resurrection escape you. There’s a power in Paul’s admonition. This is where you and I can draw our strength for troubles.

And, perhaps, some of those women who walked across the country also remembered Jesus as the source of their strength. I love that heritage of faith and would enjoy hearing from those of you with ancestors who pioneered our country. What stories do you know?

Answer this question for a chance to win Glory (ebook only) Any testimonies of faith passed down through your family?

About Marisa:

Fun facts about me. I’ve…

·      climbed a pyramid.

·      been on the circle drive in front of the White House and also saw the exposed burned bricks from the war of 1812.

·      Experienced a buffalo stampede

Mostly I write in my recliner. I am really only creative in the morning, so I get up early to work on my books. It’s almost like stolen, secret time when no one is allowed to bother me. The family knows they have to stay in bed until six o’clock.

I come from pioneer stock. In fact, I grew up on a farm homesteaded by my ancestors. All my life, family stories fueled my imagination, often making me feel as if I was born into the wrong century. Writing is one way to connect with that long ago, but not forgotten time, period.
