Recipe for Disaster -- Hero's Spotlight and New Release

Donna Schlachter • Mar 05, 2023

This is the second spotlight for this new release. If you missed the first one, go here: www.donnaschlachter.com/recipe-for-disaster-heroine-spotlight-and-new-release

Most readers want their hero to be swarthy, strong, silent, and sensationally good looking.

Walter isn’t anything like that.

He first appears when he falls off his horse, hits his head, and almost drowns. A woman saves him and nurses him back to health.

Except he can’t remember anything about his previous life. Well, almost nothing.

The Civil War is vivid in his mind. So much so that he dreams about it, frightening nightmares that may be true—or may not be. He knows his first name, but not his last. He remembers his wife Julia, and his children. Georgia. Peaches. Bits and pieces here and there, like cobwebs on a breeze, slipping into his consciousness then out again before he can really get a hold of them.

But Julia isn’t quite like herself. Has he been gone so long she’s stopped loving him? Or found another to take his place? And what of his children? They don’t talk to him. Won’t call him Papa. Except the youngest one. And he surely doesn’t remember his father, since he was born after his last visit.

And how could the house seem so different? The trees? And where were his peaches?

What of the man the army is looking for? The one that rode the horse he arrived on? Had he done something truly terrible to acquire such a fine beast?

All of these questions—and more—rattle around inside Walter’s head day in and day out.

Until one day, he knows the truth.

And this woman pretending to be his wife, isn’t.

The children—not his.

Now what?

About Recipe for Disaster:

A spinster sister, left behind by her four younger sisters, feels unwanted and unneeded. But when three orphans and a wounded soldier turn up on her doorstep, her life takes on new meaning.

A man in search of his family—has he found them at last? But something isn’t quite right.

Can God weave these five lives into something beautiful for His glory, or will half-truths and missing memories create a recipe for disaster?
