The Well-Rounded Writer + Christmas Children’s Book Giveaway

Heather Tabers • Dec 08, 2022

Join me today as I welcome author and multi-talented blogger Heather Tabers. She will share about her recent release and is generously offering one lucky reader the opportunity to win a free book.

Oh, if only I could neatly tuck myself into the little box the marketing world would like me to create for myself!

Hi, I’m Heather Tabers, the women’s/children’s/fiction/non-fiction author/blogger. I write about being a military spouse, a cancer mom, a homeschool parent, and a Christian woman. I share gritty stories about human trafficking, tell whimsical tales of love at a lighthouse, and invite children to journey with me to Bethlehem while witnessing the birth of Jesus through a magical picture frame.

If it sounds like I’m all over the place, it’s because I am. That’s how God made me, and I’m no longer frustrated that I don’t fit snuggly into a particular niche. I’m well-rounded and thankful God made me the way He did.

As a homeschool mama of five very different young personalities, it was no surprise that I couldn’t find a curriculum that seemed to meet all our wants and needs. Like many families, we chose to select a hodgepodge of books and programs throughout our homeschool journey. My youngest daughter loved the American Girl Doll books, so I found myself pulling from other resources to create a curriculum based on those stories. This led to my new middle-grade children’s book series, Framing Your World.

I’ve just released Book #1 in this series, “Framing Christmas,” and a corresponding passport book, as well. Why a passport book? Because the Framing Your World Series tells the story of twelve-year-old twins Max and Posey who travel the world with their photographer parents. “Framing Christmas” starts their journey in Bethlehem where a magical gift helps them see Bethlehem (and Christmas) differently. In each subsequent book, this series will take them to a new country where they will learn the history, geography, and culture of the land while experiencing adventure, mysteries, and spiritual/emotional growth. The Framing Your World Passport allows young readers to record information they’ve learned about each location in the series while also drawing their favorite characters and scenes, and attaching a passport stamp for each location.

Because I like to make the most of every opportunity, I’ve also created a homeschool unit study (or activity guide for those who don’t homeschool) that includes games, word puzzles, discussion questions, field trip suggestions, recipes, passport stamps, links to videos of the real life locations visited in the books, and much more.

Getting to know Heather:

What is your favorite vacation spot?

-By far, my favorite vacation destination is Hawaii. And here’s a fun fact… I’m the only person I know who has gone there three times… for FREE!

Do you have a dedicated place to write?

-Yes! My husband helped me create an adorable office in our guestroom. We took the doors off the closet, hung shiplap on the wall, and placed a cute shelving cubicle inside. My desk faces the door, flanked on either side by more shelving cubicles and a daybed (with trundle) sits on the opposite wall. My kids often hang out on the bed while I work, doing their own studies or just relaxing. My Pomeranian and German Shepherd/Lab Mix also spend most of their days on the bed snoring as I write.

What can readers expect next and how can they help?

-In January I will be releasing “Framing China” followed by “Framing Australia” in the Framing Your World Series. I’m also working on a historical fiction novel and a contemporary fiction novel, so stay tuned for updates on those.

I’d love readers to leave reviews on Amazon if they purchase “Framing Christmas” and to share the books/resources with other families. They’re great for homeschool families but public/private school kids really love the books, too. The series is fun, imaginative, and educational.
