What Do You Know About These Biblical Heroes

Today I welcome guest author Debbie Wilson as she shares about her latest release.

What Do You Know About These Biblical Heroes?

What three heroines played a role in saving baby Moses? What purpose did Gideon’s fleeces serve? Did a biblical law or personal conviction put Daniel in the lions’ den? Let’s see how you did.

Three Brave Heroines
The three heroines in Moses’s story are his mother, his sister, and—his enemy’s daughter. Faith moved Moses’s mother, Jochebed, to defy Pharaoh’s decree and save the life of her infant son (Heb. 11:23). When she could no longer hide him at home, she used reeds and tar to make a small ark and placed him among the Nile reeds where big sister Miriam stood guard.

Miriam’s heart surely pounded when one of the last people she wanted to see showed up—Pharaoh’s daughter. Miriam balled her small fists when the princess spotted the basket. But what she saw gave her hope. Instead of disgust, was that sympathy on the princess’s face?

Miriam stepped forward and offered to find a nurse for the baby. Her quick thinking and the princess’s compassion saved Moses’s life.

Gideon’s Fleeces

We think of putting out a fleece to discern God’s will. Did you know that Gideon wasn’t seeking direction with his famous fleeces? The angel of the Lord had already promised him victory in battle. Gideon set out the fleece to assure himself that he could trust God. Would and could God keep His promise?

God graciously answered Gideon’s request—twice. This boosted Gideon to take the next step. Like Gideon, sometimes we know what we’re supposed to do. We just need assurance the Lord is with us. Our High Priest stands ready to supply the grace we need. We need only to ask.

Biblical Law or Personal Conviction

No biblical law commanded the Hebrews to pray three times a day before an open window facing Jerusalem. But this practice anchored Daniel while living in enemy territory. When evil men plotted to get rid of Daniel, they convinced the king to sign a law that banned prayer for thirty days to anyone other than the king.

Daniel could have prayed silently under his bed covers, and no one would have known. Instead, he kept his habit. His enemies came together and found him kneeling before his God.

God didn’t keep Daniel from the lions’ den. Instead, He sent an angel to close the mouths of the lions. What happened to his enemies? Daniel chapter six holds the answer.

And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies” (Hebrews 11:32-34 NIV)

Getting to know Debbie

  • What do you enjoy doing for relaxation?
As an audible book fan, I enjoy mysteries and suspense. Working on a watercolor while I listen to a mystery is the best. I also enjoy the beach in the fall and spring with less crowds and milder temperatures.

  • Do you have a dedicated place to write, or a nook or corner of a room, or the kitchen table?
My kitchen table overlooks a wooded area and our bird feeder. I like being surrounded by nature while protected from humidity and bugs! My two standard poodles usually keep me company.

  • What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
What a great question. Book reviews help authors and readers. Posting a review on Goodreads, Amazon, or your favorite book seller site helps readers discover new authors and choose books right for them. Of course, telling a friend and recommending it to your church leaders are always appreciated.

Please leave your answer to the following question: Who is your favorite Bible character?
