Infusing Scriptural and Biblical Principles into Fictional Stories

Tammy Adams • Sep 17, 2023

Today I welcome author Tammy Adams as she shares how infusing our fiction with our Christian worldview can benefit readers and our story, too.

Stories have captivated humanity since ancient times, serving as a powerful medium for communication and connection. As believers, we have the unique opportunity to utilize the art of storytelling to not only entertain but also inspire and edify others. By weaving Scripture and biblical principles into our fictional narratives, we can create an immersive experience that resonates with readers, fostering personal growth and deepening their walk with God.

1. Purposeful Integration of Scripture:

One of the most impactful ways to infuse biblical elements into a fictional story is through the intentional integration of scripture. Consider selecting key verses that align with the overarching theme or message of your story. I incorporated the verse in Isaiah 30:21 "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.’’ into my book, titled His Voice. These verses can be woven into the dialogue, thoughts, or actions of the characters, allowing readers to encounter God's Word through the narrative itself.

2. Character Development and Transformation:

Incorporating biblical principles into the personal journey of your characters can be a powerful tool for personal growth and spiritual reflection in readers. As the story progresses, allow your characters to encounter challenges, make choices, and experience transformations that mirror the lessons found in Scripture. By illustrating the consequences of both positive and negative choices, readers can glean valuable insights and explore the complexities of applying biblical principles in their own lives. In my book, I made sure that conversations and scenes were written in such a way as to teach these principles by having the character grasp it at the same time as the reader.

3. Themes of Redemption and Grace:

At the heart of the Gospel, we find themes of redemption, grace, and forgiveness. Infusing these elements into your fictional story can create a profound impact on readers, reminding them of the transformative power of God's love. Consider incorporating characters who experience redemption from their past mistakes, find forgiveness, or extend grace to others. These themes resonate with readers on a deep level, offering hope and encouragement in their own journeys of faith. The main protagonist of my book has quite the journey of transformation that was not very pretty, but neither is ours… usually!

To sum it all up, incorporating scripture and biblical principles into a fictional story holds immense potential to impact readers' lives, nurturing their faith, and guiding their walk with God. Through purposeful integration of scripture, character development, themes of redemption and grace, and the use of parables and allegories, we can create narratives that resonate, inspire, and transform. As writers and storytellers, let us embrace the opportunity to craft stories that not only entertain but also lead readers closer to the heart of God.

Remember, every word has the power to shape lives, so let us use our gift to glorify God and encourage the growth of faith in others.

Getting to know Tammy:
What do you enjoy most about writing? I enjoy the process of putting on paper the scenes that I see in my mind and writing the conversations that the characters have with one another!

What can your readers expect from you next? I will begin on the next book in a three-book collection. The story will continue with the same family but center on a different person. I’m excited to tell their stories!!

How did you get started writing? I began writing poetry in my emotional teenage years which quickly morphed into story telling. I consumed books voraciously growing up and I often thought, I can tell a good story, too!
